AUTHOR'S INTRODUCTION

How do we decide how to act? Some of us just go along with what is expected; in fact, we may all do so most of the time. But probably all of us, at least some of the time, address the question asked by Pontius Pilate nearly two thousand years ago - "what is truth?" - and attempt to direct our actions upon the answer we find.

The first chapter looks at whether we can answer that question any better now than we could then. The second chapter takes the example of the debate about climate change to examine how much better, if any, we can peer into complex situations to determine their future In the final chapter, we return to Pilate's question to determine our best practices for coping with future changes, not only concerning climate, but life in general.

The answer given is both very old, and very new.
