Adi Da, Defamer of the Great Tradition

My criticism of Adi Da really began the moment he began to trash the traditions -- "demoting" Gautama Buddha and Ramana Maharshi to "6th stage". My criticism accelerated the moment Frank proclaimed himself the First Last and Only 7th stage Realizer-adept.

Frank-ly I was content to cut Frank a lot of slack, for years after I disconnected from his whacky community. But at some point it became clear that his agenda was nothing less than the "political overthrow" of the Great Tradition -- a tradition that, for thousands of years, has perfectly expressed the native state of enlightenment, and a tradition that has liberated many thousands to Self-Realization and Buddha-Nature.

When the Lankavatara Sutra gets downgraded to a document created by ego-bound "6th stagers", by a teacher who previously proclaimed the same text an ultimate example of 7th stage teaching, something is terribly terribly wrong.

(And I can easily discern that wrong by reading the Lankavatara Sutra and then reading something of Frank's own writing. With rare exceptions Adi Da's own texts, IMHO, are laboriously turgid mentalizations and prime examples of self-apotheotic inflation.)

Another example: I read Ramana Maharshi and I haven't the slightest doubt I am hearing the voice of a Realizer. I read Frank Jones (Adi Da), and I am convinced I am reading the words of a fallen 5th stage yogi. You disagree? Fine -- we disagree!

For Daists to attack my character, or for them to imply that I and others are somehow "at fault" for seeing this difference between Ramana and Frank, is a prime example of the Daist campaign to control how Frank is perceived.

It's been obvious for years that Frank is engaged in a Scientology-like program to micro-manage the language that defines and shapes the way the public perceives him. (A great example was how the disaffected students in the mid-1980's were immediately labeled "dissidents".) That p.r. campaign, doomed to fail, is but one more sign that something is rotten in Da-Da Land.

The "bad news" (which you ought to get to Adi Da asap) is that a great many people see Daism (and its founder) in a very different way than he would like to be seen! And the only answer Daists can come up with is to make his critics out to be "the bad guys", because for Daists to look squarely and truthfully at what the Daist "way" has become would be far too painful.

So my criticism is not a matter of "defaming" Frank, you see -- it is a matter of answering the defamer and his hapless mind-locked apologists. It is a matter of defending the real teachings and teachers of Awakening and standing up against "a bright and shining lie."

that's it for now,

Elias
