Ayurveda : Life, Health and Longevity

Robert E. Svoboda
/
Paperback
/

1993
~ A bit more
scholarly in its approach, this book itself serves to heal. Expanding
and vivifying. I enjoy all of Svoboda's works, which venture into
spirituality, including the "Aghora" books: [Aghora : At the Left Hand of God ~ Aghora II : Kundalini ~ Aghora III : Law of Karma] and Light on Life: An
Introduction to the Astrology of India (written with Hart DeFouw), an
introduction to Arurveda's sister science. ~

The Web That Has No Weaver : Understanding Chinese Medicine
-
Ted J. Kaptchuk
/
Paperback
/

2000
(Not Yet Published -- On Order)
~ A classic, demanding for
some, but well worth the effort. Also good, on a more introductory
level, is Angela Hicks' Chinese Medicine (Thorson's Guides). If you
want to go in the other direction and get a fine introductory textbook
used by professionals, check out Giovanni Maciocia's Foundations of
Chinese Medicine (expensive!).

Elson M. Haas

1981
~ Very nice
introduction to general health with some basic Chinese medical theory as
well, and written with a fine spirit. Also recommended is "Staying
Healthy With Nutrition", by the same author -- accurate and complete,
balancing science with solid insights from "complemetary" health. ~

~ Initially I hesitated to include this title, as it'a written almost too
simplistically (perhaps at a high-school level). Nonetheless, this book
touches nearly all the bases of healing. The author's heart is in the
right place, and as someone who recovered from diagnosed "terminal
cancer", he speaks from experience. ~
